Ab Harrison

Albert Edward Harrison was born on December 31, 1919, in Sachse, Texas. He was the great-grandson of William Sachse, the man for whom the city of Sachse is named.

Mr. Harrison proudly served his country during World War II, serving in the United States Army as a Staff Sergeant in the South Pacific from 1942 to 1945, where he earned numerous honors and awards for his service.

After returning home from the war, Mr. Harrison dedicated 40 years to the United States Postal Service as a Rural Letter Carrier. From 1947 to 1970, he served as Wylie’s only postman, faithfully delivering mail to the growing community. He retired from the USPS in 1987.

Mr. Harrison was also deeply committed to education and the Wylie community. He served two terms on the Wylie ISD School Board and was a board member when Harrison Intermediate was originally built in 1967.

In addition to his civic service, Mr. Harrison was a loyal supporter of Wylie athletics. For many years, he assisted Coach R.C. Dodd with the high school sports teams and was known for his dedication—rarely, if ever, missing a game.
