About Us

History of Harrison Intermediate School

Our campus has a rich history that reflects the growth of Wylie ISD. The building first opened in 1967 as Wylie High School. Just two years later, in 1969, additions were made and the campus became Wylie Jr./Sr. High School. As the community continued to grow, a new high school was built (now Burnett Junior High), and the campus transitioned into Wylie Middle School, serving students in 6th through 8th grade. In 1996, continued growth in Wylie led to the construction of another high school (Wylie High School), and the 7th and 8th grade students moved into their own building. At that time, our campus became Wylie Intermediate School, serving all 5th and 6th grade students in Wylie ISD. By the 2001–2002 school year, enrollment had grown to 826 students, and the building was reaching capacity. In fall 2003, a new intermediate campus opened, and schools across the district received new names. Our campus became A.B. Harrison Intermediate School. Today, Harrison Intermediate proudly serves students from four feeder elementary schools: Hartman, Akin, Cox, and Watkins. Our campus is home to just over 1,100 students, nearly evenly divided between 5th and 6th grade.
